Brazil Snapshot #15

This is photo #15 (of 50) in a series about our life in Brazil. Even though the World Cup is the biggest event this month, there is another popular celebration in June called Festa Junina. Three saints (John the Baptist, Anthony and Peter) are honored throughout the month with parties featuring square dancing and foods made from corn products – especially canjica which is a sweet soup made with hominy and flavored with cinnamon. The photos are of the traditional costumes worn by young girls to the parties and of the food at one party we attended (notice the corn bread, popcorn “cake”, and the corn soup.)
