We Serve a Mighty God!

cans2She came toward me radiating health and joy, which made it impossible to believe that a week earlier she had had only death to look forward to.

Madalena is a friend of ours who is a widow with two young children. Because of many health issues she cannot hold down a job and ekes out a living by collecting aluminum cans and plastic pop bottles to sell to the recycling center. The government gives her $150 a month. We help her with food and rent money when we can. But recently, when her health took a plunge, there was nothing we could do but hope and pray.

She was hospitalized with pneumonia and lost a lot of weight. When she was released, she was so weak she could barely walk. Loss of appetite brought continued weight loss. She could no longer dig through dumpsters to help sustain her family. As she shriveled to just skin and bones, her neighbors predicted death. But we prayed for the Lord to restore her strength, to keep her children safe, and to supply her needs.

Like the disciples in Acts 12 (who were shocked when Peter showed up), we weren’t expecting the Lord to answer as miraculously as He did. This morning we got a call that our friend was downstairs waiting to see us. Hope prepared a bag of food, praying that Madalena would have the strength to carry it home. But when she walked out of the building, there was Madalena standing straight and tall, glowing with health and strength. The two women embraced each other with tears of joy. There was no other explanation, but the mighty grace and goodness of God!

  1. Amen! Yes we do! “Praise The Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits–who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s…” (Psalm 103)

    Praising The Lord with you,
