Brazil Snapshot #28

This is photo #28 (of 50) in a series about life in Brazil. We get a kick out of how some English words are spelled here. Since the language is mostly phonetic some American words are spelled in such a way as to be pronounced correctly in Portuguese, though misspelled in English. A restaurant near our house is called “Buffalo Bio” because “bio” when pronounced in Portuguese¬†sounds almost like “Bill.” The same goes for the name of this bakery which refers to a famous storybook character:

Peter Pan Bakery
