When we met Nubia and Edson six years ago, they were reeling from the unexpected death of their young adult son. Although they did not know us, Dan was asked by a relative of theirs to do the funeral. Afterwards Dan said, “Let us know if you need anything.”
A year later the call came. Nubia said they were still hurting and knew that they needed God in their lives. Would we come and lead a Bible study in their home? Of course, we jumped at the chance and Dan spent several months teaching from the book of John. Nubia started attending church, but her husband held back, insisting that he could never be “good enough.” We prayed for him to come to an understanding of God’s grace. For FIVE years we prayed.
One day, as we visited, he finally seemed ready to believe in Jesus for his salvation. What a glorious celebration we had! Soon he was baptized and began coming to church. We praise God for His continuing work in Edson’s life and for the fruit He has brought out that initial contact many years ago. Galatians 6:9 reminds us: Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Through our small acts of faithfulness, God reveals His astonishing love and power. Don’t give up!
