When Jairo was a teenager he attended church but still hung out with a rough crowd. One night he was with his drinking buddies and was driving home at high speed. As they took a sharp curve, Jairo’s drunken friend flailed his arms, hitting Jairo and causing him to lose control of the car. They landed in a ditch where Jairo suffered severe damage to his skull. It was pitch black, but Jairo shared that he saw a dark form like a cloud coming toward him. He felt sure it must be death and wracked his brain for some prayer or Bible verse to protect him. Suddenly he remembered a song he’d learned at church and began to sing it. The shadow disappeared.
Meanwhile his mother was at home praying and saw a vision of her son in a car accident. She wasn’t a bit surprised when the call came for her to come to the hospital. Jairo’s injuries were so severe that he was put into an induced coma for a week. This was followed by many hours of surgery as the doctors tried to piece his cranium back together. Jairo is now a member of our church plant in Riacho Fundo. He loves to share this story of how God rescued him from death and called him out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9)
