The Lord Surprises Us Once Again

During the early months of the pandemic, we began meeting with three workers in our apartment building for weekly prayer and Bible reading. We gathered in the kitchen during their break time, but when several residents began to attend, we outgrew the kitchen and moved to the public lounge. People found out about it through word of mouth and we usually had about eight people in attendance.

We were surprised and delighted last month when the building manager put a sign in the elevator inviting anyone in the building (73 apartments) to participate. The first week a woman came weeping and asking for prayer for her nephew’s drug addiction. The second week an elderly resident came and said, “I haven’t been to church for thirteen years, but when I saw your sign, I knew I had to come!”

We are always amazed at who the Lord brings. Not all the participants are Christians. Some used to walk with the Lord. Some are seeking. One is a Spiritist who comes because she watched a series of Bible movies on TV and wants to know if they are true. She is often the one with most enthusiastic responses to Dan’s devotionals.

God is at work. It is exciting and humbling to have a group of people who sit on the edge of their seats in anticipation of what Dan is going to read to them. Only the Lord could have done this!

(To tell the truth, I don’t feel right about taking pictures of these holy moments, so I am posting a photo of the invitation that was put in all the elevators.)
